MUTUAL RECOGNITION

Mutual Recognition provides for the registration of a health professional in one state territory or country (New Zealand) on the basis of current registration in another state, territory or country.

Mutual recognition throughout Australia has been operating since 1992. Mutual recognition with New Zealand commenced on 1 May 1998.

Applicants are required to produce evidence of current registration in one jurisdiction and then provide this with an application form and application fee to the registration authority in the state, territory or country in which they wish to be registered.

On receipt of a complete application deemed registration is issued. Substantive registration in confirmed within one month of deemed registration being granted.

This arrangement provides a simple and fast process by which registrants can gain access to registration in another jurisdiction.
